gas safety

This week is Gas Safety Week, an awareness campaign run by the Gas Safe Register.

We are getting involved and supporting this campaign as we regularly work with landlords, and the Gas Safe Register has shared some useful information to ensure safety for tenants that would be beneficial to share with you all!

Not only is this information useful to landlords but also homeowners, to ensure the properties that they are living in remain safe and hazardless.

So, here are six top tips from the Gas Safe Register to ensure gas safety…

1) Only use a Gas Safe Registered Engineer to fit, fix and service your appliances.

You can find the closest gas safe registered engineer near you by using the Find By Location tool at Gas Safe Register

2) Check both sides of your engineer’s Gas Safe Register ID card

Once you have found a gas safe registered engineer near you, make sure to check that they are fully qualified to do the job. You can find out by taking a look at the back of the card.

3) Have your gas checked annually

Once you have found the right gas safe engineer, make sure you get all of your gas applianced regularly serviced every year.

4) Know the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning!

These can include headaches, nausea, dizziness, breathlessness and loss of consciousness. Unsafe gas appliances can put you at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, gas leaks, fires and explosions.

5) Check gas appliances for warning signs that they are not working properly

Examples include lazy yellow flames rather than crisp blue ones, stains or black marks on/around the appliance and also too much condensation in the room.

6) Fit a carbon monoxide alarm

Make sure it is audible no matter what as it will alert you of carbon monoxide in your home.
