Making plans for this weekend already? With sunshine due why wouldn’t you… However, you will need to plan ahead as Northern Rail have another strike this weekend affecting approximately 60% of services.

On the 8th, 9th and 10th of July several rail services will be replaced with buses to help keep Leeds running. However, as usual, delays are to be expected. Not only will you be affected if you are travelling locally within the city, you may also be affected travelling to Sheffield, Manchester, Newcastle and Bradford. To find out which of the services are going to be running still, please see the below link:

Do not start panicking too quickly about having to pay for buses if you already have a rail card. Northern Rail have ensured you can use your tickets on Arriva Bus Services to make journeys you would have otherwise made by rail.

Why are they striking again?

There is an ongoing battle between the decision makers at Northern Rail and the employees who are members of Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union in regards to staffing on trains. Northern Rail are pushing for driver only trains which creates security issues on trains as well as affecting the general customer service.

Perfect timing… The ASDA Foundation 10km run is also this Sunday, causing further chaos and adding to the traffic in and out of Leeds. The run mainly takes place within the City Centre and on Kirkstall Road so a large proportion of Leeds will not be affected. Our very own Leeds branch manager will be taking part, if you will be joining her make sure you set off extra early so that you are only running to the finish line and not to make it to the start! There are still places available if you feel you are up to the challenge: http://www.runforall.com/10k/leeds/
