Searching for student accommodation can be tricky. Nevertheless, it’s a very exciting time – you’re finally getting a sense of freedom at a young age.

As a student, you do not want this time that should be exciting to be spoiled by being overwhelmed from the complications of finding the right property. This is why we take so much care of our clients that are in need of student accommodation. We take the stress out of it all, and one of the ways in which we do this being sharing our expert knowledge. Therefore, we have put together 3 things that you should know about finding student accommodation in Leeds

1) Location, Location

It may sound like a bit of an obvious one, but many students out there don’t really think that living a long distance away from their University will be a big deal. This is something that we always recommend you ensure you do have a thorough think about. Will you be regretting your decision when commuting to your 9am lecture on a cold winter morning? Or when your having to squirm your way through Leeds city centre to get a seat on the train during rush hour? Ensuring that the location of your student accommodation is only a short walk away is something that you will be very grateful for on the days where you just can’t be bothered – believe me.

The local area is essential to do some research into to – will you feel safe walking through an area with a high crime rate during the after a big night?

2) Is it safe and secure?

Take a look at the minor details – are their locks on the windows and each individual door? Having locks on your bedroom and bathroom door are essentials, especially when you’re sharing your house with other students. Having privacy and security is a big thing to look out for. But not having a lock on your en suite shouldn’t matter too much if there is a lock on the bedroom door. Checking for good fire escape routes from all floors and rooms can be quite an important one too.

3) Beware of damp and mould!

When you go for a look round the property, take a good look at the walls and ceilings for any signs of mould. This is extremely essential for those who suffer from ashtma or allergies, and is also bad for your health in general, even if you do not have any of these issues. Mould and dampness also has a bad odor which is obviously very unpleasant to live with!
